Make a donation

Our services are financed from central government taxes and we strive to provide the highest level of service to our patients from the funding we receive. However, the high demands for our services mean that donations make a very important difference.

Many worthwhile uses

When giving a donation you can decide what you would like your money to be spent on, such as the purchase of equipment for a particular department or toys and games for the children’s ward. We sometimes have campaigns to raise money for a special piece of equipment or to improve facilities. Alternatively, you could donate to the general hospital donated fund for the Trust or to a particular ward or department where our teams can decide on where the need to spend is greatest.

You gave… we bought…

Thanks to your donations in the last few months, we will be replacing the carpet in the Rainbow Room, buying new furniture for out breastfeeding room and chemotherapy unit, and purchasing items to support families of patients who are in their last days of life. There are also lots of other smaller purchases to enhance the patient experience of the hospital, particularly in the paediatric units, such as new games and colouring and play equipment.

Larger purchases will include: specialist equipment to help secure breathing airways when they have been blocked and cannot be opened by traditional means and the purchase of an oesophageal doppler, which allows non-invasive monitoring of blood fluids during major colorectal surgery.

Charity events donations and legacies

Many people raise money by undertaking a charity walk, parachute jump, weight loss or car boot sale and the money they raise is a wonderful way to support your hospital.  Others donate money in lieu of flowers or birthday presents, include a legacy in their will or donate money in memory of their loved one.

All of the money donated is managed separately by the hospital trustees who produce audit accounts each year.

How to make a donation

Cash donations can be brought to the Cashiers Office during normal office hours.  The Cashiers Office is located on the ground floor, in the main hospital building, on the corridor behind the hospital shop.  Donations made by cheque can also be brought to the Cashiers Office or posted to the Cashier at the hospital address.  Cheques should be made payable to ‘Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Donated Funds’.

If you are coming to the hospital and wish to make a donation, there are also a  number of areas throughout the hospital where you can pick up envelopes to put donated funds into. There are details on the envelopes of where to take the donated funds, and an option to tick a box so that Gift Aid can be reclaimed.

If you send the donation by post, please state if the gift is for a particular ward, department, a campaign or to the general fund. Please also include your name and address so we can send you a receipt.

If you are a tax payer you can increase the value of your donation by filling in a gift aid form and sending it with your donation. For every pound you donate we will be able to claim 25p back from the tax man at no cost to you. You can find a gift aid form here
