Barnsley Hospital staff traded in their uniforms for cocktail dresses and bow ties at the annual Barnsley Hospital Charity Heart Awards on Friday 5 June.
The Heart Awards celebrated, for the sixth consecutive year, the hard work and dedication of Barnsley Hospital staff and volunteers. All members of staff were able to nominate their peers and patients had the opportunity to put forward their nominations in the Patient’s Choice category, resulting in almost 200 nominations being made in total.
Over 250 guests attended the awards night, hosted by BBC Look North’s Harry Gration, which aimed to recognise the commitment of Barnsley Hospital staff and volunteers.
Staff across Ward 24 and the Chemotherapy Unit celebrated after winning the BRILLIANT Staff Team award which recognised staff that had shown dedication, drive, determination and extraordinary levels of hard work. Barbara Falconer, recently retired Ward Clerk on Ward 24, also celebrated after winning the BRILLIANT Staff Individual award.
The Chairman’s Award went to Terrie Mcniffe, Children’s Community Sister, who has had a fundamental role in transforming services for children with complex neurodisabilities – diverse groups of chronic disorders that often begin during the development process.
Chairman, Stephen Wragg, said, “It was a great honour to present Terrie with my award this year. Terrie has shown an enormous amount of commitment to the Trust and her role in working with local children. She is hugely enthusiastic about her work and is a credit to both the Children’s Services and herself.”
“It was a fantastic night and I think it is fair to say that we all enjoyed meeting together to share our appreciation of our colleagues and the amazing work they dedicate all year round for patients, staff and visitors.”
Barnsley Hospital would like to thank all organisations that kindly sponsored the awards and made the event possible.
The hospital would also like to thank Pixel Wave Creative for providing video footage of all nominees, Savills for providing sound and light engineering at the event, Kelsey Ellison who provided live entertainment, Sarah Brabbin who photographed the event, Wickham and Taylor for room decoration and the Holiday Inn for hosting the event.
