Barnsley Hospital is encouraging people across Barnsley to stay healthy this Christmas. The public are being asked to help to reduce the risk of infection in the hospital this winter by taking extra care when visiting families and friends.
The winter months bring numerous different viruses, such as; colds, sore throats, norovirus and flu. The hospital advises that people delay their visits to the hospital if they are suffering from a severe cold, diarrhoea or sickness.
Visitors are also advised to use the alcohol hand gel when entering the ward areas and not to sit on patients’ beds, in order to protect patients and prevent the spread of infection.
Denise Gibson, Assistant Director of Infection Prevention and Control, said: “Christmas is always a busy time for us as a hospital and with the increase in common winter illnesses especially diarrhoea, it is important that visitors to the hospital follow these simple steps to help us protect our patients. We hope that everyone has a healthy and happy Christmas and New Year.”
