Millie Johnson opens The Well for Wellbeing at the Core in Barnsley

The Well for Wellbeing has been launched at The Core in Barnsley town centre by Millie Johnson, the renowned local author.

This pioneering initiative for cancer patients will provide a package of six free beauty and complementary therapies for both men and women from Barnsley who are being treated for cancer, no matter where they are being treated.

The Well is to be used for delivering the therapies and can also be used for group classes and patient support groups. There are 2 confidential treatment areas, a reception, and a comfortable waiting area.

Complementary therapies will include oriental massage, reiki, and beauty therapies, including brow and lash enhancements and a tailor-made service to teach people how to tie scarves and fit hats and wigs. The Well will also offer advice on how to look after your scalp and hair during and after treatment for cancer.

Diane Turner, Lead Cancer Manager at Barnsley Hospital, said “It’s not easy to introduce something as innovative as complementary therapy into an acute setting, but when a patient says “thank you for the great treatment – you have made me feel like the Queen” a clinician knows that the efforts have been worthwhile.”

If you would like to take advantage of the services available at The Well, or would like more information, contact 01226 433978.
