What parking is available?
We have 632 public parking spaces in total, 343 within the immediate grounds of the hospital, and 289 spaces in a new car park on Pogmoor Road. The first 20 minutes of parking is free which is great if you are just picking up or dropping off. The car parks are covered by CCTV and security staff patrol regularly. There are also spaces dedicated for disabled drivers.
The hospital operates a pay-on-foot system, which means you need to pay at a pay station before returning to your car and exiting the car park. There are pay stations located in each of the public car parks, and also one inside the hospital in the main hospital reception, off Gawber Road. The parking pay stations take coins as well as notes and also give change.
We also provide a small number of pay and display parking spaces near the emergency department and the renal dialysis unit. The same charges apply but you will need to buy a ticket as soon as you park up and display this in the windscreen.
If you travelling to an appointment or visiting by car, please allow extra time for parking, as the car parking spaces fill up quickly during peak times.
We regret that we have to charge for parking at all but the cost of the security measures and the maintenance of the car parks means we have to make a modest charge so we don’t divert money away from patient care. The charges increased on 1st October 2008 which was the first increase since January 2005.
There are lots of concessions for those who need to come to the hospital frequently and if you only stay in one of our on-site car parks for 20 minutes it is free.

Free parking is available to:
- Parents who need to stay with sick children
- Visitors of intensive care patients
- Visitors of coronary care patients
- Patients attending for chemotherapy
- Patients attending dermatology
- Patients attending for renal dialysis
We ask patients to aim to arrive to the ward or department they are visiting at least ten minutes before their appointment. In the unlikely event of the outpatient appointment being delayed for more than two hours, we will also cover the extra cost of your parking. Patients or visitors who believe they are eligible for free parking should fill in a form on the relevant ward and hand it into the security office in the main reception along with their ticket.
What if I have a problem?
If you have any questions or concerns about car parking whilst on site, please visit our security office which is located near the main hospital entrance. Alternatively you can speak to security from any barrier or Pay station via the Intercom button.
