Please find below a list we have compiled of the most frequently asked questions about Choose and Book and making an outpatient appointment:

Can I book all my hospital appointments through Choose and Book?

Yes.  When you and your GP agree you need to see a consultant, you will be able to choose your first outpatient appointment.

I don’t know what date/time to choose yet

No problem.  If, for example, you need to sort out childcare or arrange for someone to bring you to hospital, your GP surgery can give you a password and booking reference number for when you are ready to choose.

You will then be able to make your appointment in one of the following ways:

  • calling the appointments line on 0845 608 8888 (all calls will be charged at local rate)
  • using the internet
  • with the reception team at your GP surgery
  • directly calling the hospital appointment call centre on 01226 434343 between 8am-7pm Monday to Friday

I’ve mislaid my booking reference number

The booking reference number is on the appointment letter given to you at the time of referral by your GP.  If you cannot find your letter, call your GP surgery and they will be able to give you the number.

How do I make/change/cancel an appointment?

You can make/change/cancel your appointment in the following ways:

  • calling the appointments line on 0845 608 8888 (all calls will be charged at local rate)
  • using the form provided by the NHS e-referral service
  • with the reception team at your GP surgery
  • directly calling the hospital appointment call centre on 01226 434343 between 8am-7pm Monday to Friday

Can I get an earlier appointment?

Here at Barnsley Hospital, we are beating this target so you should be seen much sooner. We publish a list of our current waiting times.

If you would still like an earlier appointment, contact one of the following to see if there has been a cancellation:

  • the appointments line on 0845 608 8888 (all calls will be charged at local rate)
  • directly calling the hospital appointment call centre on 01226 434343 between 8am-7pm Monday to Friday
