Barnsley Hospitals Dermatology team provide a diagnostic and treatment service for all Dermatological conditions. We serve the Barnsley population and also receive referrals from many surrounding areas.
The Department has 2 Dermatology Consultants, 1 GPSI (GP with special interest in Dermatology) and a GPCA (GP clinical assistant).
The department also has a Nurse Practitioner and a Skin Cancer CNS (Clinical Nurse Specialist)
Consultant clinics are held Monday to Friday between 09:00am and 5:00pm
Nurse clinics are held Monday to Thursday between 8:00am and 6:00pm and Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm.

Referral Criteria
We accept referrals from GPs or any NHS provider for the following skin conditions:
- Diagnosis of various skin rashes
- Diagnosis and removal of various skin lesions including skin cancers
- Contact dermatitis
- Eczema
- Psoriasis
- Urticaria
- Camouflage treatment
- Acne
- Hyperhidrosis (excess sweating)
- Alopecia (hair loss)
- Leg Ulcer treatment
- Vitiligo
Waiting Times
The current waiting times are as follows:
- Skin Cancer referral
within 2 weeks - Urgent appointment
2 to 4 weeks - Routine appointments
12 weeks
We also provide a Dermatology Vulval clinic in partnership with the Genito-Urinary Medicine department.
New and Follow Up Patients
On your visit to the Dermatology Department please report to the reception where the receptionist will ensure we have all your up to date information.
When the Doctor is ready to see you a nurse will escort you from the waiting area and into the Doctors room. Please be aware for diagnosis or treatment of some skin conditions a minor procedure may take place at your first or subsequent visit. This procedure normally takes around 20 minute to complete.
