Education and training of staff

The Pharmacy Department is very committed to education and training and offers a variety of training from ad hoc teaching on the ward to detailed training programmes. Teaching is also provided for non pharmacy staff such as doctors, nurses and medical student.

The training within the department covers a wide range from work experience for students to supporting student technicians to reach NVQ3 qualification in pharmaceutical services and qualified pharmacists to gain specialist knowledge.  The department is proud to be involved in the training of pharmacist from their first year at university to qualified pharmacists undertaking post graduated qualifications such as MSc in clinical pharmacy. Everybody in the department works together to ensure the best training for all students.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Continuing professional development is very important to the department as this ensures pharmacy staff are up to date with their knowledge. This is supported by weekly education sessions within the department organised and delivered by members of staff.  External speakers are invited to ensure the most qualified person talks about a given topic and to help to build relationships to other health care professionals as pharmacists and technicians a like work as part of a team. A variety of teaching styles are used to provide a good learning environment. Each member of staff is encouraged to keep a portfolio containing evidence of their personal CPD.
