Barnsley Cancer Action Group are at the moment a small group of local people that have all been affected by cancer in some way and have all had different experiences, encountering good and bad care and communication.

We want to use these experiences to work alongside Barnsley Hospital and the local Health Authorities and Agencies to ensure that all care, physically, mentally, emotionally and socially are provided to a high standard and that there is equality of care throughout the whole of Barnsley.

The  Barnsley Cancer Action Group have actively been involved in the recruitment of the Macmillan Living With and Beyond Cancer Programme (LWABC) Project Manager to the Trust, and a Macmillan/End of Life Care GP in the community.  They also work closely with the LWABC Project Manager/Cancer Services  and have recently had input in the development of the patient Electronic Holistic Needs Assessment at Barnsley Hospital and moving forward would like to develop a patient journal to record a patient’s cancer experience to help review and shape future services.

Some members of the group have also helped establish a Cancer Patient Choir which meets every Wednesday at 6.00-8.00 pm at St Pauls Church, Old Town. Contact number for the Choir is Cheryl Roberts on 07791281879.
