The shortlist for the HSJ Awards 2017 has been announced with Barnsley Hospital being shortlisted in the “Improving environmental and social sustainability” category for their commitment to Carbon Reduction.

Barnsley Hospital CEO, Dr. Richard Jenkins, said: “To be shortlisted is a terrific achievement and comes as excellent news. We take our approach to sustainability very seriously and we are delighted that the team are in with a chance of winning another award for their hard work. I’d like to say well done to all those involved.”

The awards are one of largest celebrations of healthcare excellence in the world, recognising and promoting the finest achievements in the NHS, and showcasing them to the service’s most influential leaders.

With 23 categories, the awards, held in partnership with de Poel health+care, reflect the full spectrum of the sector’s services and challenges.

Barnsley Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has been shortlisted for “CCG of the Year” and i-HEART Barnsley, Barnsley Healthcare Federation has been shortlisted in the “Acute, community and/or primary care services redesign” category.

Entrants demonstrated outstanding practice and innovation, which help to safeguard and improve patient care, improve value and efficiency in healthcare and have been judged to be leading the way in this increasingly important area. The awards received more than 1,500 entries.

The shortlisted organisations will now complete presentations and interviews to a specific judging panel made up of senior and influential figures from the health sector.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony on 22 November at the Intercontinental O2, London.
