The hospital is sorry to report the very sad news that Harshad Patel, one of our Governors, tragically passed away over the weekend.

Harshad had already served three years as a highly respected and valued Governor and had very recently been re-elected by the membership to serve a further three-year term.

A retired secondary school science teacher, college governor, examiner and a magistrate for twenty years on the South Yorkshire Magistrates Bench, Harshad was also an active community representative and Chairperson of the Gujarat Association of Barnsley and Indian Welfare Association of Barnsley.

Harshad had recently received the national Inclusion and Social Value honour from the Magistrates’ Association for his work in furthering public knowledge of the criminal justice system and in particular he was recognised for all his work with members of BAME (black, Asian and minority ethnic) groups having assisted in providing social, educational and cultural opportunities for everyone – but especially women and their families.

We would like to express our sincere condolences on behalf of the Trust and the Council of Governors.
