About the project

We are investing £3.5m into a dedicated, co-located Children’s Emergency Department (ED) and Children’s Assessment Unit (CAU).

The project is planned over three phases and is due to complete in spring 2021.The new build will be constructed on the front of the current Emergency Department and will also see a 50% increase in adult bays within the department.

Why are we doing it?

Our existing Emergency Department was designed to see around 150 patients a day. In the last few years we have seen this number grow significantly. We are building this extension to ‘future-proof’ your local hospital services.

The new development will see an increased amount of space for the Children’s Emergency Department and the Children’s Assessment Unit in a co-located new building so that teams can work much more closely together in brand new facilities which will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
