Visitors to Barnsley Hospital at around 12noon today are welcome to observe the national two minute silence and our colleagues are supported to take part where patient care allows.

We’re proud to be a Veteran Aware accredited Trust and are committed to supporting our Armed Forces community, which includes those currently serving, veterans, reservists, spouses or family members, both within our own workforce and the community we serve.

Barnsley Hospital is working to support ex-service personnel in the NHS through various initiatives. This includes recognising and leveraging transferable skills, offering specialised support services for mental and physical health, and partnering with Armed Forces charities to provide comprehensive support to veterans and their families.

At Barnsley Hospital, the Armed Forces Forum (staff network) partners with local organisations and community groups to provide additional support to veterans and their families. We’re proud to support our staff with a safe, confidential and familiar environment for members to reflect on their service days and be a part of celebratory and awareness events such as VE Day.

NHS recognised as top employer for Veterans

Barnsley Hospital, like many NHS trusts, recognises the value of military skills and values. The Step into Health Programme, is a national initiative designed to help veterans and their spouses/partners join the NHS. The programme provides a dedicated pathway into a career in the NHS including recognising transferable skills and providing support for career transitions.
