An innovative swallowable sponge improved detection of a pre-cancerous throat condition called Barrett’s Oesophagus. A trial is now underway to investigate whether the technology could be used in a screening programme for oesophageal cancer. This research project won one of the 2025 NIHR Impact Prizes.
