Kate is an Assistive Technology Specialist Occupational Therapist with the team. Kate’s role is to work with individuals using our service to assess and provide appropriate electronic assistive technology.

Kate graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy. Prior to joining the Barnsley team in 2021, Kate had worked for wheelchair services in the United States and England. During this time, Kate developed a particular interest in speciality wheelchair controls and postural management.

Kate says:

“Moving into assistive technology has been very exciting for me as I develop new skills that help individuals gain independence in their home and community. It has been satisfying to also be able to use my previous knowledge and experience within a new setting.

I am collaborating with my Barnsley colleagues and wheelchair services across our area regarding wheelchair integration to ensure best outcomes for our clients.

I also have a specific interest in accessible gaming. For so many of our clients with complex disabilities, gaming is not just an important activity for them, it can also be a way of communicating with friends and family. Being able to provide new or continued access to this world for our clients is a very rewarding experience.”
