International recruitment

Since 2020, Barnsley Hospital has recruited over 100 nurses from Kerala in India.

Each of our wonderful new colleagues is a trained nurse who has had to complete the The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) test of competency within 12 weeks of arrival in the UK.

The NMC competency test is a two and a half hour exam, consisting of practical and theoretical aspects. All internationally trained nurses have to pass this rest in order or become NMC registered in the UK.

We are so proud of the whole team's accomplishments, and the nurses who have left their home country - and sometimes young families- to come and start a new life and career at Barnsley Hospital.

None of this would be possible without the whole team's support.

Our practice educators, Mandy Griffiths and Irfan Ahmad play a particularly significant role in supporting our internationally recruited nurses.
