Practice Supervisor Workshop

The Practice Supervisor Workshop is a 7.5 hour full study day – this is for staff who have never completed any previous mentorship training. Staff members complete a full days training with breaks to facilitate completion of a workbook throughout the day which is then marked by the Practice Educators. This enables staff to become Practice Supervisors at the end of the day.

Once the completed workbook is received and marked this competency is added on to their ESR training record, updated on the placement area PARE profile, and a certificate of completion is given also for each candidate to keep as evidence of participatory training of required for those on the NMC register for revalidation.

This training is also offered as part of the Preceptorship programme on study day 4.

Practice Assessor and Clinical Educator Training

Practice Assessor/ clinical educator training, also known as Practice Educator and Assessor Preparation (PEAP) is completed via eLFH during one 8 hour study day. This is for all AHP staff to complete in order to support AHP students. For nursing staff who want to become Practice Assessors, firstly you must have:

  • Have previously completed the Practice Supervisor workshop including the workbook
  • Have been on the Nursing/Midwifery/Nursing Associate register for at least 12 months and completed preceptorship programme.
  • Have acted as a Practice Supervisor for at least three months, and supervised at least three students
  • Have line manager support and agreement that the above criteria have been achieved
  • Have an application form signed by line manager to book onto training

For AHP staff this training is also offered as part of the Preceptorship programme on study day 4.

Practice Supervisor/Practice Assessor update

The Practice Educators in the Student Support team will deliver 1 hour update sessions. These updates are offered twice a month, however it is also available via a training video on the intranet.

Updates need to be completed every 2 years for Practice Supervisors and Practice Assessor’s every year.
