New NHS App features

Patients have long been able to use the NHS app to help manage their health and wellbeing in a number of ways. This includes, booking and viewing GP appointments (dependent on if your surgery has opted in), order repeat prescriptions, book covid-19 appointments, register organ donation decisions, and use NHS 111.

Patients aged 16 and over*, under the care of an acute hospital can now use the NHS App to:

  • view referrals and future hospital appointments in one place
  • view a single point of contact for each appointment
  • access supporting information to help prepare for appointments
  • receive notifications and messaging
  • complete questionnaires
  • access documents such as appointment letters, discharge summaries, and outcome letters

* Note that patients aged 16-17 may not be able to view or manage some of their hospital appointments, depending on rules determined by services.

For a summary of how patients at Barnsley Hospital can use the NHS app, please visit our patients page.

For detailed information about how the NHS App accesses data to provide information for patients, please read the guidance available on the NHS.uk website.
