The resurfacing works are anticipated to last for approximately five weeks.

To minimise disruption, the work will take place during night hours between 7pm to 5am, with a slight adjustment on Sundays to 6pm to 5am.

The project will be carried out in three phases, with the initial focus on Gawber Road crossroads, and then progressing towards town.

Full details of the timings and location of the road works are available on Barnsley Council's website.

Access to the hospital will be significantly impacted during the first stage of works

Between Tuesday 29 August and Sunday 3 September access to the hospital will be significantly impacted by resurfacing works happening on the crossroads of Gawber Road and Pogmoor Road each evening from 7pm (6pm on Sundays), until 5am the following morning.

Diversions will be in place for people travelling from Barnsley centre to the hospital.

People will be redirected from the town centre via Huddersfield Road and Rowland Road.

Diversions will direct people to the hospital main entrance which will also provide them access to car park 4, the Emergency Department, the main Outpatients entrance, and the Women's and Children's Services entrance (including Maternity Services).

People will still be able to access hospital car parks 1 and 2 from Pogmoor Road, whether travelling via Summer Lane or Dodworth Road.

Anyone wishing to access the Emergency Department or our Maternity services after 7pm will either need to follow the diversions leading to the hospital, or follow temporary night-time signage on and around the hospital site.

Anyone in the care of our Maternity Services can call 01226 432249 (24-hour contact number) for more information.
