Your wonderful knitted hearts are presented to our teams

During the Covid-19 pandemic the hospital received many wonderful donations, amongst which were thousands of pairs of knitted hearts which were primarily given to a patient and a loved one so they had identical hearts to hold on to.

Knitted hearts presented in a selection of frames

Sue Burgan worked throughout the pandemic as part of the operational response team known as Silver Command. Such was the volume of hearts, and not wanting to see them unused, supported by Barnsley Hospital Charity Sue set about putting them into frames with the intention of sharing them around the hospital as a lasting reminder of the challenges, suffering and loss the pandemic brought.

So partly in recognition of the challenges we faced in the pandemic, and partly as a celebration of the 75th birthday of the NHS, Sue has organised a set of framed hearts to be delivered to every ward and department in the hospital.

She enlisted the help of Trust Chair Sheena McDonnell, and a number of hospital volunteers to do this, and these are just some of the teams receiving their hearts.
