This is a nurse led service with a lead Consultant. We offer termination of pregnancy (Abortion) to patients up to 16 weeks gestation.
The service is available 7 days a week, and referral is via:
- General Practitioner (GP)
- Spectrum (Barnsley Integrated Sexual Health Service Tel: 01226 249949)
- Substance Misuse
- Self-referral (not yet currently offered)
- Other Abortion Providers (Marie Stopes/ British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) etc)
Following referral, you will be invited for an initial consultation (normally within 5 working days). At this consultation a blood test to determine your blood group and vaginal swabs to check for any infection will be taken.
An abdominal or vaginal Ultrasound scan will also be performed, this is to determine how many weeks pregnant you are. The Nurse will then discuss the treatment options available and how it will be performed.
This consultation normally takes around 45-60 minutes.
Further visits for Abortion treatment – (normally within 10 working days of decision to proceed, dependent upon gestation and procedure).
