Undergoing surgery or spending time in hospital can be demanding for any person, but being physically active before coming to hospital can improve your ability to recover.

When we think about being active and moving, it is easy to start thinking it has to be something big like going to a gym or running. Whilst those things are great for some people, being active and moving more means different things to different people.

No matter how much you do, physical activity is good for your body and mind. Adults should aim to be active every day.

To get started why not visit Barnsley’s What’s Your Move website: https://www.barnsleywhatsyourmove.co.uk/. This provides lots of practical information about moving more and what activities are available across the borough.

Further information about getting active can be found at nhs.uk/better-health/get-active

Whilst in hospital, if you would like to find out how to become more active, ask your healthcare team to refer you to our Health Lives Team. They are on hand to offer support.
