Our Patient Experience and Voluntary Services team have worked together with our Learning Disability and Dementia teams to ensure that on-site care and support can be provided to those who need it whilst their carer is attending an appointment at Barnsley Hospital.

We are pleased to announce that the next meeting of the Trust’s Board of Directors, held in public will be starting at 9.30 am on Thursday 5 October 2023, in Lecture Theatre 1 and 2, Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Gawber Road, Barnsley, S75 2EP.

From Monday 2 October, our patients will receive a digital copy of their outpatient clinic outcome letter, which has been dictated and typed on Digital Dictation. This will be instead of the default paper version previously issued.

Every year hundreds of lives are saved because of donated organs like hearts and kidneys. It’s not so widely known that donated tissue such as skin, bone and corneas can also save or dramatically improve lives. For Organ Donation Week (18 - 24 September), we spoke to Sarah Derbyshire-Kripp about her mum Joan - the first tissue donor at Barnsley Hospital.

Two people who were waiting for organ transplants are now walking around fit and well, after 56-year-old care worker Cathy Boydell Sheldon donated her kidneys and heart valves. In Organ Donation Week (18-24 September), Cathy’s sister Anne Sewell told her heart-breaking story.

As the new school year begins, NHS South Yorkshire’s Children and Young People’s Alliance are calling upon schools across the region to join a new initiative named ‘Asthma Friendly Schools’ as part of the Excellent Asthma Care Programme. 

South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) are undertaking a review of Patient Transport Services. The ICB are seeking feedback from patients who have recently used the service. 

Highways resurfacing works will take place on Gawber Road, Sackville Street, and Victoria Road from Tuesday 29 August 2023.
