Maternity Bereavement Service

Our specialist Bereavement Midwives are trained to care for and support you and your family if you have sadly suffered the loss of a baby.

Early Pregnancy Unit

The Early Pregnancy Unit is part of Gynaecology Services, which offers advice and support for those experiencing pregnancy related conditions up to 20 weeks gestation. 

This is a nurse-led service with doctors available for advice and support if required.

Outpatient Pharmacy

Our Outpatient Pharmacy is located at the top of the escalators in the outpatient lobby.

Active Together

Active Together is a cancer pre-habilitation and rehabilitation service funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research.

NHS WiFi at Barnsley Hospital

Speech and Language Therapy

We offer a wide range of specialist in-patient and outpatient speech and language therapy services.

Children’s Respiratory team

The Children’s Respiratory Team provide medical, nursing, dietetic and physiotherapy care to Children and Young People up to the age of 16 years of age who have a respiratory illness such as; Asthma, Cystic Fibrosis, Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia.

Children's Community Nursing

The children’s community nursing team see patients in a community setting to help reduce attendance and admissions to hospital.

Community breast pain clinics

If you are referred to Breast Care Services at Barnsley Hospital and your symptoms are exclusively breast pain, you may be booked into one of our bespoke breast pain clinics. These are located at the Community Diagnostic Centre, in The Glassworks, in Barnsley town centre.

Children's A&E and Assessment Unit

We see children and young people with a wide range of medical illnesses and injuries.

Amber Clinic (premature birth prevention clinic)

The Amber Clinic is dedicated to the assessment, treatment and individualised care of women and other pregnant people (and their families) who are at an increased risk of having a premature (pre-term) birth. A pre-term birth is one that happens before 34 weeks, or waters breaking (rupture of membranes), very early.

Antenatal day unit

The Antenatal Day Unit (ANDU) is a midwife led assessment area located on the ground floor of women’s services next to the ultrasound department. If you require additional monitoring during your pregnancy that does not need you to stay in hospital it may take place in ANDU.

Antenatal Clinic

We see all women who have chosen to have their baby at Barnsley after they have had their first scan and at various other stages in pregnancy if required. For the majority of women most of the antenatal care after this first visit will be provided by their named community midwife in their local area.

Gestational diabetes

Information about diabetes that develops during pregnancy, known as gestational diabetes.

Maternity Assessment Unit

The Maternity Assessment Unit or Triage is situated on level one, in Women’s Services, adjacent to the Birthing Centre and is accessed through the Birthing Centre door.

Our nurse-led early pregnancy service offers support for those experiencing pregnancy related conditions up to 20 weeks gestation.

Pathology

Pathology is the study of the causes and effects of disease or injury. 

The Directorate of Pathology provides in-house routine diagnostic services for Blood Sciences, Blood Transfusion and Microbiology, with 24/7 unbroken support for emergency medicine. A routine Cellular Pathology service is provided along with mortuary and post mortem facilities to serve the Trust and the district coroner.

Assistive Technology

The Assistive Technology Team at Barnsley Hospital is commissioned by NHS England. The team provides specialised Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and Environmental Control (EC) services. Assistive Technology (AT) is any product or service designed to enable greater independence, for predominantly, disabled and older people. 

Pelvic and Perinatal Physiotherapy

The Women’s Health Physiotherapy team provides a range of services. Our patients include musculoskeletal, ante and post-natal patients, patients with continence and gynaecological problems and those with breast cancer.

Vascular Surgery

Vascular surgery is the treatment of patients with diseases of the arterial, venous, and lymphatic systems, excluding the intracranial (head) and coronary arteries (heart).
