As an NHS Foundation Trust, we publish lots of documents about our activities.

How we are run

Barnsley Hospital is a foundation trust – which means local people have a say in helping shape our future.

The board of directors oversees the running of the Hospital. The board is accountable to the council of governors. The governors are elected by and accountable to the Hospital members. 

Together they decide on the strategic direction of Barnsley Hospital Foundation Trust.

GRACE - GRAduated Compression stocking as an adjunct to Extended duration pharmacological thromboprophylaxis for venous thromboembolism prevention

We have just opened a new study to determine the need for stockings to prevent blood clots in patients having surgery requiring blood thinning medication post hospital discharge.

Patients who are scheduled to undergo a procedure in hospital that puts them at higher risk of developing VTE will be approached prior to their procedure.

If the patient agrees to taking part, following the signature of a consent form, they will be allocated to one of 2 arms.

AlcoChange - a smartphone digital therapeutic to improve outcomes from alcohol-related liver disease

We have just opened a new study exploring ways of helping people drinking at harmful levels to cut down and stop. 

AlcoChange is a new smartphone app with an optional breathalyser (breath alcohol meter) that allows people to monitor their alcohol use; the app also provides motivational messages to encourage people to stay sober.
