New surgical centre in Mexborough named - Mexborough Elective Orthopaedic Centre of Excellence (M-E-OC)

Over 1,500 local people voted over the weekend on the name of our new surgical centre at Montagu Hospital in Mexborough. With 56% of the vote, we are pleased to announce that the service will be called the 'Mexborough Elective Orthopaedic Centre of Excellence' or M-E-OC for short.

Carers can now access on-site support to attend appointments.

Our Patient Experience and Voluntary Services team have worked together with our Learning Disability and Dementia teams to ensure that on-site care and support can be provided to those who need it whilst their carer is attending an appointment at Barnsley Hospital.

Patients to receive digital copies of outpatient letters

From Monday 2 October, our patients will receive a digital copy of their outpatient clinic outcome letter, which has been dictated and typed on Digital Dictation. This will be instead of the default paper version previously issued.

Joan’s ultimate gift of tissue donation

Construction to begin on £14.9 million theatre facility at Mexborough’s Montagu Hospital

Working in partnership with Barnsley Hospital and The Rotherham Hospital, colleagues at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals are leading the programme to implement a new, dedicated orthopaedic hub for the people of South Yorkshire.

Your wonderful knitted hearts are presented to our teams

During the Covid-19 pandemic the hospital received many wonderful donations, amongst which were thousands of pairs of knitted hearts which were primarily given to a patient and a loved one so they had identical hearts to hold on to.

Patients now able to choose the date and time of their blood test appointments

New unit will future-proof Barnsley intensive care

Work is now completed on Barnsley Hospital’s new £7.3m Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This is a landmark for Barnsley in terms of future-proofing the town against current and future demand for intensive care beds, and is a milestone in Barnsley Hospital’s capital development projects.
