The UK Government’s Office for Veterans’ Affairs has launched a major new consultation to gather evidence on the experiences of UK Armed Forces veterans.

A new national initiative, aimed at offering patients a potential alternative choice of where to have their treatment, is set to launch on Tuesday 31 October 2023.  The Patient Initiated Digital Mutual Aid System (PIDMAS) has been created to help manage the process. 

Over 1,500 local people voted over the weekend on the name of our new surgical centre at Montagu Hospital in Mexborough. With 56% of the vote, we are pleased to announce that the service will be called the 'Mexborough Elective Orthopaedic Centre of Excellence' or M-E-OC for short.

Our Patient Experience and Voluntary Services team have worked together with our Learning Disability and Dementia teams to ensure that on-site care and support can be provided to those who need it whilst their carer is attending an appointment at Barnsley Hospital.

From Monday 2 October, our patients will receive a digital copy of their outpatient clinic outcome letter, which has been dictated and typed on Digital Dictation. This will be instead of the default paper version previously issued.

Every year hundreds of lives are saved because of donated organs like hearts and kidneys. It’s not so widely known that donated tissue such as skin, bone and corneas can also save or dramatically improve lives. For Organ Donation Week (18 - 24 September), we spoke to Sarah Derbyshire-Kripp about her mum Joan - the first tissue donor at Barnsley Hospital.
