New unit will future-proof Barnsley intensive care

Work is now completed on Barnsley Hospital’s new £7.3m Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This is a landmark for Barnsley in terms of future-proofing the town against current and future demand for intensive care beds, and is a milestone in Barnsley Hospital’s capital development projects.

Celebrating Healthcare Science Week

It’s Healthcare Science Week and we’re looking at some of the latest medical developments to come to Barnsley Hospital. Among these is ‘Endoscopic Ultrasound’ (EUS). Barnsley is the first district hospital to introduce this in south Yorkshire. We spoke to consultant gastroenterologist Dr Hussam Ahmed about the technique.

New figures today reveal that while the highest number of women ever were screened last year, nearly four in 10 did not take up the potentially lifesaving offer.

Interest in breast screening appointments in Barnsley boosts

Ladies who have received their breast screening invite encourage not to delay in booking an appointment.

Since April 2022 the uptake of breast screening appointments in Barnsley has increased by 25 per cent thanks to the opening of Barnsley’s Community Diagnostics Centre (CDC) in May and the introduction of new behavioural science methods to encourage women to attend.
